There are only two guide books that we found which are published (in
English) for climbing in the Zermatt region. Both books contain good diagrams
and descriptions of the routes, although we found that conditions were quite
different from those described, since it was such a hot summer.

Maps
There are several maps which cover the Zermatt area. The first map I
mention is a good 1:50,000 which gives the newcomer an overview of the region.
The second two are the 1:25,000 maps which we found whilst still in England.
These are similar to the OS maps used in this country and are good for day to
day use. The best map I found is the last one listed, and this was found in
Zermatt. It is a 1:25,000 walkers map, and shows all the paths clearly along
with relevant information such as hut location, cable cars and estimated
walking times. It also marks cycle routes and areas for paragliding. This map
is well worth buying.
