We got up at 7:30 a.m. to excellent views of the Matterhorn above the cloud, and after a relaxed breakfast we started to head down to Zermatt. The going was easy, however we were unable to go past the spectacular waterfall at Arben due to rockfall. Instead we headed down the road to Zmutt, where we stopped for a well earned and extremely tasty waffle with fruit and a coffee each. It was then a short 40 minute walk to Zermatt and our hotel, with the Haute route completed. In the afternoon we relaxed in Zermatt, with Duncan and I having a meat fondue at Stadel, whilst Ian and Francoise went round the very interesting Matterhorn Museum. After our evening meal we went out for a few pints to celebrate.
